A dry socket may occur after you’ve had a tooth pulled. When a blood clot forms inside of the socket of the missing tooth, an empty socket is left behind. The blood clot staying in place allows the area to heal and if it comes out, that’s when you will experience a dry socket. You will know when this happens because dry sockets are very painful.

Preventing Dry Sockets

The first thing you are going to want to do is visit your local dentist’s office to get checked right away. You want to get the pain treated immediately and Rockside Family Dental Care can help out with this.

You can utilize over-the-counter medications as well, but this will only numb the pain for a short amount of time, not solve the problem.

You will also want to stop consuming small, sharp foods. Using a straw may also keep the pain at bay. Avoiding smoking, drinking alcohol, or anything that will irritate the area will be your best bet until you are able to visit our office.
