When you head to your local dentist, you might notice them poking around more than usual at times. They will always do this to check for any signs of issues like oral cancer. Oral cancer appears as a growth or sore in the mouth that does not go away.

Checking For Oral Cancer

Typically, at Rockside Family Dental Care we will ask you to move around your tongue in weird ways in order to thoroughly check for anything out of the ordinary. This is a process where we check for oral cancer inside the mouth. This is also conducted every 6 months in the office. So you want to make sure you’re heading to you give us a call if you haven’t already set up your next 6-month checkup.

Risk Factors For Oral Cancer

The people who are most likely to get oral cancer are those who use some form of tobacco, most commonly smoking and drinking together. Oral cancer is less likely for those that do not use these types of substances, but we still check everyone because there is always a small chance that something could come up, and it’s always better to catch it early. By checking all our patients, we make sure we are doing our due diligence to keep you healthy and protected!
